The Radiology Department Remodel at Geary Community Hospital was an intense renovation of existing space that involved completely removing all interior partitions, ceilings, and floor coverings in the existing radiology department. All work was completed while maintaining normal hospital operations and life safety systems.
Cleanliness and quiet operations were keys to the success of this two year, multi-phase undertaking in the heart of the hospital. With HEPA filtration systems and negative air pressure monitors in operation at all times, Ron Fowles Construction kept the jobsite clean and virtually dust free throughout the construction process. Dust containment partitions were installed around the perimeter of our construction boundary to limit dust and debris from entering the hospital’s sterile environment.
All new electrical and mechanical systems were installed and tied into existing systems and controls as a part of this endeavor. Many different trades and materials were utilized to accomplish this work. The ability to understand the plans and predict unforeseen issues before they became problems as well as schedule conflict resolution were important factors contributing to our overall success with this project.
The addition of two large roof top HVAC units required structural steel beams and columns to be installed through the ceilings of the occupied emergency room. Communication and scheduling were critical to complete this sensitive task while maintaining full functionality and sterility of the emergency room and keeping staff disruption to a minimum.
